The Artchipel Orchestra brings to JAZZMI an exclusive concert dedicated to Misha Mengelberg, the famous Dutch pianist. Special guest saxophonist and clarinettist Michael Moore from the “Instant Composer Pool”, an orchestra founded in 1967 by Mengelberg himself, a leading figure in European post-World War II jazz. The research and elaboration work carried out by the orchestra was based on ‘writing’ their own original arrangements.  

Op zondag 26 oktober aanstaande vindt weer de Vriendendag van het NJA plaats. Dit jaar zijn we vanwege de vele positieve reacties en het succes van de vorige keer wederom te gast in “Heuvellaan Hilversum”(voorheen Muziekcentrum van de Omroep, ofwel het oude gebouw van de VARA).We bevinden ons daar op welhaast heilige grond, denkt u maar aan de talrijke inmiddels legendarische jazzopnamen die in dit gebouw gemaakt zijn.Gedurende de hele dag zijn we te gast in Studio 8Kaarten zijn alvast hier te bestellen, en het complete programma wordt binnenkort bekend gemaakt.

Classic Amsterdam impro duo set-up of piano and drums plus ‘wat verder ter tafel komt’. Jawel! With tonight an extra focus on the music of Misha Mengelberg.

Oscar Jan Hoogland (Amsterdam, 1983) is the sound of Amsterdam in person. He is an instant composer and inventor of his own instrument by joining a clavichord, a keyboard instrument from the 17th century, to 220 Volt electricity. As the last student of the late pianist, composer and improvisor Misha Mengelberg he tears like a tornado through the Amsterdam jazz and impro scene.

Jannes Deurvorst (Amsterdam, 2004) is an improviser, activist, punk and jazz drummer. His history studies at the UvA didn’t stop him from playing a crazy many shows last year, ranging from outdoor dada manifestations to jazz gigs and fast and furious punk shows at Paradiso.

Nee, het was geen avond lang louter Misha-stukken waarmee het ICP Orchestra donderdagavond in het Bimhuis de negentigste verjaardag van mede-oprichter Mengelberg vierde. Maar de uitvoering van diens ‘Bospaadje Konijnehol’ in de finale bracht dat weer in balans als zo ongeveer de ultieme Micha-compositie. Niet alleen de titel is ‘helemaal Mengelberg’, maar evenzeer de karakteristieke combinatie van toegankelijkheid en verwarring.
